Tony DanglerGodbody (Single from The IKIGAI Album)

Prologue

God Body

A term we normally hear from elite lyricists. There are a lot of believed origins. From the “Five Percent” Muslim origins to the Hip Hop artists who spoke about their ability on the mic.

Let’s go with the art, Tony Dangler man. Pietermaritzburg born and raised MC. Cypher specialist that wasn’t haunted with the “I can rap but I can’t make a song infection”. Personally, I heard him first on Ziplock Zee’s4 Grams” joint. He was gliding. Had the Da$h and Retchy P sound to him too. The back pack era energy. The underground purist’s go to really. “The drip made them lose their mind like Chinese water torture”. As I said, neat bars from a self-proclaimed spitter. No objections from this side too.

More importantly the piece “Godboy” didn’t deviate from the high ability level. Every poetic skill exhausted. Nothing short of what you would expect. What I like is that Tony has an element of flexing and feeds into popular vices that make the sport a little entertaining. MCs normally get a little too preachy when they’re this skilful and it loses the appeal to a lot of people. Especially passive Hip Hop listeners. But the balance here is dope. From telling us about his prowess with the queens to the flawless skillset he possesses.

We need this, especially with the Drill and Mumble Rap music scene catching waves in South Africa. Remember, all of that doesn’t work this side. Mkhwanazi won’t understand your lies. Keep it factual, keep it audible, keep it Hip Hop. Keep it positive. Keep it conscious with your own identity to it.
